In addition, alcohol and drug use among adolescents has been found to negatively affect their ability to perform academically (Bryant, Schulenberg, O'Malley, Bachman, and Johnston, 2003; Cox, Zhang, Johnson, and Bender, 2007). Early experience with alcohol and drug use and hazardous patterns of drug-using behaviour during adolescence are serious risk factors for developing long- standing problems that continue into adulthood, including dependence and chronic disease. Further, it appears that substance use in adolescence - while the brain is still developing - is associated with an increased risk of mental health disorders (Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, 2007). In order to effectively address youth substance abuse, an understanding of the prevalence and patterns of use along with the risks and harms associated with youth alcohol and drug use is needed. Having findings /results from across Canada provides knowledge exchange opportunities across different regions and can help inform a national picture of student alcohol and drug use - one that can focus policy, research, prevention and treatment efforts across the country. 590 EBSCOhost|bProfessional Development Collection 650 0 Students|xAlcohol use|zCanada. 650 0 Students|xDrug use|zCanada. 650 7 Students|xAlcohol use.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01136045 650 7 Students|xDrug use.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01136065 650 7 Addiction.|2iptcnc 650 7 Adolescence.|2iptcnc 650 7 Binge drinking.|2iptcnc 650 7 Canada.|2iptcnc 650 7 Cannabis.|2iptcnc 650 7 Confidence interval.|2iptcnc 650 7 Crack cocaine.|2iptcnc 650 7 Driving under the influence.|2iptcnc 650 7 Education.|2iptcnc 650 7 First nations.|2iptcnc 650 12 Alcohol Drinking. 650 12 Substance-Related Disorders. 650 22 Adolescent. 651 7 Canada.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01204310 655 0 Electronic books. 710 2 Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse. 710 2 Student Drug Use Surveys (SDUS) Working Group. 776 08 |iPrint version:|z9781926705712 914 ocn785802600 994 92|bSTJ
