Summary |
Some of Lord Byron's best known and well-loved poetry was not written to be recited, but as lyrics. The "Hebrew Melodies" were originally published with their musical accompanimentℓin 1815 and were a collaboration between Byron and Jewish composer Isaac Nathan. Over the years, the popularity of the music waned, but Byron's lovely poemsℓcontinued to be published. "The Destruction of Sennacharib" recalls the Old Testament story of the attempt by theℓAssyrian king, Sennacharib,ℓto attack Jerusalem (2 Kings 18-19). |
