Summary |
One of the most pervasive forms of campaign literature in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was the campaign handbook, also frequently called the campaign textbook or manual. Whether official productions of party organizations or attention-grabbing pamphlets developed by profit-seeking publishers, these handbooks provided comprehensive looks at the key issues, party platforms, and candidates of upcoming elections in the days before political blogs and the 24-hour news cycle. This handbook produced for the 1900 election was "officially endorsed" by the four parties featured (Republican, Democrat, Prohibition, and Populist), and includes candidate biographies and overviews of the year's key campaign issues, including imperialism and the relationship of labor and capital. |
