Summary Maria CassavettiℓZambaco was a favorite model of Edward Burne-Jones. She and her twoℓcousins, including Rossetti's favorite,ℓMarie Spartali Stillman, were known in London society as "The Three Graces." Burne-Jones and Zambaco had a well-known affair and caused a scandal when he temporarily left his wife for her. After their break-up, Burne-Jones continued to use her likeness in his paintings, typically rendering her as an enchantress, as he did in The Beguiling of Merlin, where she represents Nimue, who brought about Merlin's downfall.ℓ
