Summary |
Another early Vaudeville sister act, The Cherry Sisters, became notorious for their awfulness. They were paid as much as $1000 weekly by some theater-owners and would play to packed houses whose audience members would hurl insults (and sometimes produce) at them for the duration of their performance. They were so insulted by an unabashedly disparaging review of their performanceâ„“by critic Billy Hamiltonâ„“that they attempted, unsuccessfully, to sue him for libel. Hamilton's remarks and other details from the court case can be found on pp. 194-95. |
