Summary "With the increasing number of avenues of approach along lines of most varied research we are slowly coming a little closer to the solution of the riddles of epilepsy and dementia praecox. Valuable light is thrown on spasmophilic states in general, including epilepsy, by this year's noteworthy contributions to the knowledge of parathyroid tetany and its preventions. Epidemic encephalitis, however, continues to hold the stage as the most fruitful field of neurologic research. In this volume attention is particularly called to its sequels, both physical and mental, an understanding of which is most helpful not only in connection with the management of cases of this disease, but on account of the light thrown on the pathogenesis of many nervous and mental symptoms and syndromes. While we are constantly adding to our knowledge of the mechanism and amazing polymorphism of this disease we are still uncertain as to its etiology and in pitiful ignorance regarding curative treatment at any stage. Other neurologic contributions of interest are the treatment of paretic dementia by inoculation with malaria, and the large amount of research work which tends to throw doubt on the hypophyseal etiology of diabetes insipidus and to shake our faith in general regarding several generally accepted ideas of the function of the hypophysis"--Preface.
