Summary Unveiling of the Dante statue in the Italian Nationality Room in the Cathedral of Learning. The Italian classroom, room 116, was created by architect Ezio Cerpi of Florence in a 15th-century Renaissance theme. It features an original Renaissance fireplace from a 15th-century home in Florence bearing the Latin inscription: “O Lord do not forsake me," olivewood panels bearing the names of Italian notables such as ℓDante Alighieri and Botticelli, as well as Michelangelo and Gallileo. The names and founding dates of Italian Universities are also present. The first bench carries the mane of Europe's oldest University, founded in Bologna in 1088. The room was dedicated May 14, 1949.
