520 Cultural Aspects of Health Care: A Toolkit for Pharmacy
Education is a resource designed to equip pharmacy
educators with practical tools for learners to better
serve individuals from diverse cultures, communities, and
populations. This toolkit provides a collection of active
learning strategies and reflection activities for
educators to integrate cultural aspects into existing
health care courses and educational seminars within
pharmacy and other related disciplines. This resource
serves to complement chapters, textbooks, and websites on
cultural competency, diversity, and health disparities by
providing learning activities that utilize different
teaching methods to engage the learner. The structure of
the toolkit includes major MODULES such as cultural
competency, health disparities and the social determinants
of health, health literacy, diverse cultures and beliefs
and others. Within the modules are several FOCUS AREAS
that address a targeted learning objective (e.g.,
       exploring bias, increasing self-awareness, negotiating
treatment plans) with accompanying methods for the
activity, materials needed, and potential assessment of
learning. Each tool addresses one of three learner domains
: Attitude and Values, Knowledge, or Skills. To help
educators navigate the toolkit, the resource categorizes
the learner level (introductory or intermediate), targeted
learner audience, education setting (online, discussion)
as well as the estimated time and number of students.
Further, the toolkit includes methods to assess growth and
development in learners related to the activity. As
appropriate to each focus area, additional resources are
       provided.
