520 A variety of research methods are used to test the
       efficacy of psychoanalytic treatment, including session-by
       -session analyses, detailed examinations of therapist-
       patient exchanges within the analytic hour, and intensive
       studies of single (or multiple) treatment cases. Taken
       together, studies in this area confirm the value of
       psychodynamically oriented treatment for a variety of
       psychological problems. Some of the topics discussed
       include mutual verbal influence in the therapeutic hour;
       links between "repetitive action structures" and patient
       change; semantic analysis of therapist-patient
       interchanges; and the use of single-case experimental
       designs to research the processes involved in insight-
       oriented therapy. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2004 APA,
