Summary Provides tools to develop phoneme awareness--the ability to identify individual sounds and their order within words--for competence in reading, spelling, and speech. Enables self-correction in both spoken and written languages. Begins at the oral level with problem-solving activities and extends to multisyllabic and contextual levels of reading and spelling. Focuses on processing of sensory information, such as lip, tongue, and mouth actions that produce the sounds heard in words. Teaches students to use sensory information from feeling, seeing, and hearing to develop a feedback system that promotes self-correction in speech, reading, and spelling.
