Summary |
ℓEnglish: ℓThis manuscript, a copy of an original lost in the 16th century, is one of the most important scientific codices and the first treatise on hydraulic works in Spanish. It was attributed to Juanelo Turriano, "mechanic to Charles V and Philip II, author of complex watch systems and large elevations of water with strange devices" but this was put in doubt by the first researchers on the manuscript in the 18th century. By analysing the language used and the geographical references, it was considered to be the work of an author from Aragon and Nicolás García Tapia attributes it to Pedro Juan de Lastanosa, who was "engineer to Philip II."ℓ ℓThe four hundred and forty high-quality, immensely detailed drawings included in the five volumes,ℓcomplement the precise description of the technical processes. The machines and devices are accompanied by their exploded views, which enable the details of their functioning to be observed. |
