"This treatise ... in an English dresse, out of the ... work [Vitae Germanorum Theologorum] of Melchoir Adamus" [signed: Tho. Hayne] prelim. p. [13-14]
Original document: Book.
Summary Published in the 17th century, this early biography of German theologian and reformer Martin Luther takes a decidedly anti-Catholic stance. Much of its contents consists of passages taken from the religious writings and letters of Luther himself, as well as the works of several of Luther's contemporaries. Because of the book's age, its language and method of printing may seem strange to modern eyes. Still, it remains a fascinating look at Luther's reputation one hundred years after his death.
