Summary |
In this work, two friends remember an encounter one of them had with Socrates in childhood. Socrates gives a description of his attitude and method toward philosophy when he compares himself to his mother, a midwife, and calls himself a “midwife to knowledge.” He prefers to guide his students to the truth through their own deduction and reason, rather than simply tell them what they should believe. This teaching style has come to be called the Socratic Method. |
