It is a long-running Baltimore tradition: every January 19th, a mysterious man in a formal cape visits the grave of Edgar Allan Poe and leaves three red roses and a half-bottle of cognac. Spectators watch from a discreet distance as the "Poe Toaster" leaves his tribute and then departs. A client requests P.I Tess Monaghan discover the Poe Toaster's identity, and as she unwillingly stands in the cold on that January night, two cloaked figures approach the grave ... there is a shot, and one of them is killed ...
